FAQs

Location and Access

  • Trips are tailored to the age and level of fishing experience in your group. Brad can provide a trip appropriate for children and families, all the way to experienced fishers.
  • Location (within Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Queens) and trip length can be customized on request.
  • Unless otherwise noted, we'll meet at the entrance to the NYC Ferry pier at Greenpoint landing. The nearest address is 21 India St. Other locations can be arranged via email!
  • Bathrooms are a short walk away from the pier and are accessible for wheelchairs. If special accomodations are needed please let me know and we can change the location to accomodate you if at all possible.
  • Food and snacks are available nearby.

Provided Equipment

  • Rods, reels, tackle, bait and all other fishing equipment will be provided. Brad will have extra sunscreen, but please bring your own to ensure SPF protection.
  • Brad will have wipes and hand sanitizer, but fishing can be messy so it's not a bad idea to bring your own too!
  • If you want to keep fish you will need a way to bring it home like a bag or cooler.

Fishing and Activities

  • The targeted species and fishing method will change based on season and conditions.
  • Common species include striped bass, tautog (blackfish), black seabass, porgy, summer flounder (fluke), American eel, and the ever-present toadfish.
  • We will occasionally catch bluefish, white perch, spot, winter flounder and species of small sharks like smooth dogfish. There can always be a surprise appearance from an exotic species too!
  • You can keep your catch if it meets the relevant regulations. Keeping fish in the city is possible but does require some considerations. If you're interested in that Brad can discuss with you.
  • If conditions are right we will use underwater cameras, small traps and other cool science gadgets to learn more about the marine environment while we fish!
  • The lesson includes a presentation on local environmental history and fishing methods
